Entrants
will submit artwork based on one of the following themes:
-
"E" - The most creative representation of the letter
"E" for Enclave
- "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of..." - The most
inspiring expression of that statement
- "Boundaries" - The most interesting interpretation of
the Enclave property and everything within its property line.
This
contest is open to all enrolled private or public Montgomery County,
Maryland elementary, middle and high school or homeschooled students;
enrolled students in a college, community college, trade or professional
school in Maryland, the District of Columbia or Northern Virginia;
and individual artists 18 years or older.
Submissions:
All art including two and three dimensional pieces, regardless
of category or media, will initially be submitted electronically
as an 8"x10" 300 dpi jpeg image by midnight December 31,
2008 for preliminary review. On or about January 15, 2009, a selected
number of entrants will be notified to submit their original piece
of artwork by January 31, 2009 for the qualification review.
Conditions
of Entry: By participating, entrants agree (a) to these official
rules and to the decisions of the judges and Sponsor and its affiliates
and agents, whose decisions shall be final in all respects; (b)
to release, indemnify and hold harmless Sponsor, its affiliates
and subsidiaries and their respective directors, officers and employees,
agents and assigns from and against any and all claims, liabilities,
losses, damages or injuries of any kind resulting in whole or in
part, from their participation in the contest and the acceptance
and use of a prize; and (c) that Sponsor and its agents are not
responsible for late, lost or misdirected entries or mail.
Late, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries are void. Sponsor
reserves the right, in its sole discretion to cancel the contest
at any time. (d) Entries may be posted on Sponsor's website and
(e) Sponsor may use likeness of entries on clothing, point-of-sale
materials, posters or other marketing materials.
Art
Requirements/Restrictions: All entries must be self-hanging intended for wall-mounting or self-standing
for sculptural display. Wall mounted art should not exceed
6' height x 6' length x 2' depth. Indoor sculpture should not exceed
10' in height, 5' in diameter, including podium if applicable. Outdoor
sculpture should not exceed 15' in height, 10' in diameter, including
podium if applicable and must be capable of withstanding outdoor
elements. Sculptures may include, but are not limited
to the following: ceramic, porcelain, clay, rock/stone, cement,
plastic, wood, found object, mixed media, metals, and paper. Drawings
may include, but are not limited to the following: pastels, charcoal,
pencil, crayon, pen & ink and marker. Paintings may include,
but are not limited to the following: acrylics, oils, watercolors, tempera,
spray, encaustics, pigments and airbrush, screen-print, linotypes
and woodblock prints.
Winners:
Judges will choose top entries for inclusion into a private collection
displayed at Enclave Silver Spring. Entrants called back for the qualification
review will be invited to an exclusive event/art display on the
evening of February 12 where the winners will be announced.
Judging:
Judging is based equally on expression of the theme, ingenuity,
creativity, composition, use of color or black and white, use of
space, strong focal point, originality and overall creative quality.
Prizes
– Only U.S. citizens are eligible for cash prizes. No cash
substitutions, transfers or assignments of the prize are allowed,
except by Sponsor for reason of unavailability, in which case a
prize of equal or greater value will be awarded. All taxes are the
sole responsibility of the winners. Only one prize per person will
be awarded. Winners agree that by accepting a prize, each winner
waives all liability against Sponsor, its agencies, employees, and
third party vendors for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind
resulting from winner's acceptance or use of a prize.
Grand
Prize - $20,000 cash to be used for art education at the institution
of choice, premium installation location in the private Enclave
collection, extended artist profile and art displayed on Enclave's
online gallery.
Distinguished
Artist - $2,500, premium installation location in the private
Enclave collection, extended artist profile and art displayed on
Enclave's online gallery.
Award
of Excellence - $750, premium installation location in the private
Enclave collection, extended artist profile and art displayed on
Enclave's online gallery.
Special
Achievement (Twenty five winners) - $300 gift card to Pearl
Arts or Plaza Arts, installation into private Enclave collection,
artist listing and art displayed on Enclave's online gallery.
Honorable
mention - Installation in the private Enclave collection, artist
listing and art displayed on Enclave's online gallery.
Special
Achievement for Montgomery County Students: (six winners; two
each from elementary, middle and high school levels) - $500 gift
card to Pearl Arts or Plaza Arts.
Winners'

Registration
Entry Fee: There is no registration entry fee.
Deadline
- Entries must be received by December 31, 2008.
